Coretta Scott King was an author, social justice activist, civil rights leader, and the wife of Martin Luther King Jr. She spent her life fighting for the rights of others, particularly people of color and other disenfranchised groups within society. Her work to benefit the black community and the world at large has been everlasting. Following her husband's assassination in 1968, Scott went on to establish the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. Later, she successfully lobbied for his birthday to recognized as a federal holiday.
